Sharon Schmidt...
Pastor Michael Helwig was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1971.He is sixth born of eight children. He grew up in Two Rivers, WI where his Father served as a Lutheran School Principal and Teacher. His mother held a long career as a Registered Nurse in various ER's and Health Care agencies.
Already desiring to prepare for the pastoral ministry at 13, he attended Martin Luther Prep School in Prairie du Chein from 1984 -89, (since then the school has been merged with LPS in Watertown.) He attended Northwestern College in Watertown from 1989-1993 and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Thiensville, WI. His third year of seminary life he served as a Vicar (intern pastor) at St. John's in Baraboo, WI. By then he and Rachel (Seiltz) were married and were expecting their first child. Pastor Helwig served Christ Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE from 1997 - 2003. Since August of 2003, he been serving as Pastor at Crown of Life in Hubertus WI. He and his wife Rachel have five children.
Pastor enjoys listening to and playing all sorts of music, with special interest in guitar, piano, and recently the mandolin. He likes to fish and hunt, and spend his free time with his family and the Crown of Life family.
Rebecca Lindenberg...
Sharon Schmidt grew up in Shiocton, WI. She attended Shiocton Elementary, followed by Fox Valley Lutheran High School. Sharon Received a Bachelor’s Degree at Dr. Martin Luther College and then a Master’s Degree at Northern State University. She was blessed with a call to teach at Trinity Lutheran School in Aberdeen, SD. There she taught grades K-3 for six years. The Lord then led Sharon to Crown of Life Lutheran School here in Hubertus. For eight years she taught grades K-4.
Sharon and her husband, John, are blessed with two beautiful daughters. She stayed at home with her girls until they both went to school. She currently is teaching the Extended Learning Program at Crown of Life. Besides teaching, she is the Director of Music for Crown of Life. Sharon also teaches piano lesions and directs the choir. She enjoys doing some gardening at home.
Wade Cohoon...
The latest addition to our staff is Becky Lindenberg. Becky grew up in Menomonee Falls, WI and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Grade School. She then attended Kettle Moraine Luther High School in Jackson and went to Martin Luther College. She began studying Early Childhood Education, but later switched to Elementary Education and graduated in 2003 with honors. Her degree is in Elementary Education with a minor in music.
After graduation, Becky and her husband, Erik, moved to Eden Prairie, MN, where Erik was called to be the staff minister for two churches in this Twin Cities suburb. Becky took a position at Children’s World Learning Center as a Lead Teacher for three-year olds. She later held the position of Assistant Director and then moved on to Center Director at their downtown Minneapolis location where she managed teachers, students, the budget and the curriculum.
Becky and Erik received calls to the Milwaukee area in the spring of 2006. She currently teaches Kindergarten and First Grade at Crown of Life and loves every minute of it! She is also the Athletic Director and has helped create our very own sports program. In addition, she coaches cheerleading. GO COLTS GO! In her spare time, Becky also plays hand bells, sings in the choir and plays the flute for different services.
Erik and Becky were married in 2003 and have a son, Joe, who was born in June of 2005. Becky says he is very funny and energetic and definitely keeps his parents on their toes and that they are excited to be at Crown of Life!
Susan Mueller...
Wade Cohoon was born and raised in Denver, CO. As a youngster, Wade always wanted to be a forest ranger, living and working in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. However, the Lord had a better plan for him. Instead of crawling into bear caves and monitoring wildlife, he led Wade to become a teacher. His teaching strengths in science are geared toward the outdoors, as his room decor will testify to.
Wade graduated in 1977 from Martin Luther College in New UIm, MN. He earned his BS degree in education in 1984 from Martin Luther College, the same year he married Bethel Kemmitz. They have been privileged to raise five children. Wade has been teaching for 20 years, all in the great state of Wisconsin. He is currently teaching his eighth year at Crown of Life and serving as principal. He is also pursuing a masters degree in leadership from Martin Luther College.
Wade enjoys numerous outdoor activities with family and friends. He also enjoys going to the movies, which he finds easy to use in relating much of the material he teaches to his students. He and his wife, Bethel, try to be at all of the soccer, football and basketball games that their children participate in.
Pastor Mattek...
Susan Mueller currently teaches grades 2-4 at Crown of Life. She was born in Watertown, WI and grew up in Lake Mills, WI. Susan spent all of her school years attending parochial schools; St. Paul's Lutheran Grade School, Lakeside Lutheran High School, Milwaukee Lutheran Teachers College and Dr. Martin Luther College. She taught in Arlington, MN where she met her husband. They moved to Hartford when Sue accepted a call to teach at Peace Lutheran Church. She has past experience in teaching at all levels - preschool through adult.
Her husband, Dale, is the national Director of the Builders for Christ program. He has been privileged to help many congregations around the world in starting and building their worship facilities.
Susan and Dale have two grown daughters, Sara and Emily, and one very spoiled dog, Hershey.
Pastor John P. Mattek was born in 1976 in Milwaukee, WI, to Rev. John and Ruth Mattek. The oldest of seven children, John grew up in Waukesha, WI, where his father served Trinity Lutheran Church as pastor. His dad was also a Professor of Religion and History at Luther Prep and Martin Luther College, and currently serves as pastor at Resurrection Lutheran in Milwaukee. His mom taught Music at Luther Prep and Martin Luther College, and currently serves as Secretary to the WELS Commission on Worship. John attended Northwestern Prep School in Watertown, WI, for high school. While at Prep he played football, basketball, and baseball. He also enjoyed singing in the Prep Singers. He then attended Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts. While in college he played football, basketball, and tennis. He was also active in the Travel-Canvass-Witness outreach program.
After college John entered graduate school at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN. There he finished the coursework for a Master of Arts in History. His area of focus was Early Christianity. Then John attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI, during which he also spent two years as Evangelism Vicar at Siloah Lutheran Church in the inner city of Milwaukee. After serving for a year as Vicar at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE, he graduated in 2005 with a Master of Divinity. John was then called back to his alma mater, Luther Preparatory School (formerly Northwestern Prep) in Watertown to serve as a Tutor. There he taught New Testament Religion and Physical Education, supervised a floor in the dormitories, coached varsity basketball as assistant coach, and directed Spanish immersion/mission trips to the Dominican Republic for students involved in “Project Timothy.”
In May, 2007, Pastor Mattek was called by God to serve as Associate Pastor at Crown of Life in Hubertus, WI. This made John a third generation pastor – his grandfather, the late Rev. John W. Mattek, preached God’s Word in Wisconsin parishes for 40 years. Education is Pastor Mattek’s ministry focus at COL, where he manages all levels of religious instruction: Adult, High School, and Grade School. He is also responsible for church discipline, overseeing fellowship events, and serving as the Youth Pastor.
